InterContinental Hotel Group has announced plans to make its New Zealand Hotel Indigo debut in Auckland, opening in 2021. A 41 story mixed use development, which will consist of 20 residential apartments over 11 floors including two penthouse floors, restaurant, bar, gym and public areas on the first three floors and a 4.5 Star hotel consisting of 225 rooms over 26 floors.
The development will be built in the centre of the Auckland CBD and will form part of the highly urbanised environment in Albert Street. The existing building on the site is listed as a heritage building, with emphasis being placed on the protection, maintenance, restoration and conservation of the facades which is being incorporated into the new hotel. The underpinning of the design is led by maximising the sites relatively small site area and follows a conventional layout for a slender tower form, whilst laying out the various functions rationally.
