Lyttelton Port is the major bulk fuel terminal for the South Island, importing over a million tonnes of bulk fuel (petroleum, LPG, methanol and bitumen) each year.  The oil berth project aims to provide a resilient structure to service the 117 bulk fuel vessels that visit the Port each year.  Through structural strengthening and refurbishment it is hoped to prolong the life of the structure by a further 15 years.
