Project Description

Client:

Auckland City Council

Project Value:

$9 million

The project was opened on 17 October 2009 by the Mayor of Auckland City, Hon. John Banks.

The square, which is the only significant green space between midtown and the waterfront, was transformed with great new features.  The upgrade celebrated the square’s heritage and was an excellent example of quality urban design which is critical to Auckland becoming a truly great city.

The design was developed with input from nearby residents, businesses, square users, St Patrick’s Cathedral and the public.  It reflects how people wanted to use the space and established a visual connection with St Patrick’s Cathedral.

Key design features included new paving, street furniture, water features, planting and artworks. Lighting improvements created a safer and more attractive nighttime environment. Grassed areas provide people a place to relax within the busy CBD.

The upgrade covers the entire area of St Patrick’s Square, located between Albert, Hobson, Swanson and Wyndham streets, and complements the 2007 restoration of the St Patrick’s Cathedral.

We completed the full pre and post-contract commercial administration for the project including production of estimates from concept to pre-tender stages, tender documents and cost management and reporting.
