Project Description

Client:

Palmerston North City Council

Project Summary:

Palmerston North City Council funded a new development to transform the existing social housing stock built in the 1960s. This social housing project formed part of the following four Council plans for 2018-21: Housing and Future Development Plan, Safe Community Plan, Social Housing Plan, Urban Design Plan.

The project has successfully delivered 85 homes, a tenant lounge, and an outdoor area for the residents of Palmerston North.

The units feature open-plan layouts and incorporate eco-friendly, future-proof designs aimed at improving residents’ quality of life. Each unit boasts double-glazed windows, excellent insulation, and holds a 4-star Lifemark certification. This meets the client’s objective to allow the community access to healthy, safe, and affordable housing.

Papaiōea Place serves as an exemplar for land efficiency and innovation within a tight budget. A huge achievement for the construction industry to admire in New Zealand and beyond.

WT provided project management services across Stages 1 and 2. The initial project phase involved the procurement of a main contractor to provide a full design and build contract to deliver PNCC’s new social housing development on the existing site.
