The extension of the container terminal at Lyttelton into Te Awaparahi Bay includes the reclamation of approximately 16ha of land and the construction of a new 380m wharf.
The first 10ha of reclamation was completed using rubble from Christchurch CBD, which provided a sustainable solution for the removal of this material following the February 2011 earthquake. The remaining 6ha of reclamation, was created using material produced from the nearby Gollans Bay Quarry.
