WT HISTORY: FROM PAST TO FUTURE

WT has  a proud history of evolving with changing times and seizing opportunities to help our clients shape built environments around the globe.

1949

Our story begins with two quantity surveyors starting their practices on either side of the world: Terry Wolferstan in Australia in 1949 and Len Trower in the UK in 1951.

1961

Their paths converged in 1961 when Trower journeyed to Australia, met Wolferstan, and the two agreed to merge their businesses across the hemispheres. This partnership has grown into the WT we know today. Wolferstan and Trower’s 1961 meeting was a defining moment in a pivotal year, which also included WT’s first major project in Asia.

1980s

As the ’80s boomed, WT opened more offices in Australasia, our UK teams expanded European operations to Spain and Italy, and in Asia we delivered major projects in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

1990s

In the 1990s, recessions challenged the construction industry, but major airport appointments in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur and large projects in Spain and Portugal kept us thriving. In 1996, WT’s first office in mainland China opened and soon forged a strong reputation for high-rise projects.

2000s

Since the turn of the millennium, WT has continued to expand our services and extend our reach across the globe. We’ve further developed our presence in China and South-East Asia, and established ourselves in North America, New Zealand, Germany, India, South Africa and the Middle East.

TODAY

Today, WT is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy firm with 2,000+ experts across 70+ offices — proud of our long-held reputation for accurate, independent and trusted advice, and excited to lead the building and construction industry into the future.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

We recognise that the construction sector plays a significant role in shaping the world we live in, and with that role comes responsibility for our broader outcomes. We understand that we are uniquely placed to influence many organisations and building projects on a far greater scale, often where environmental sustainability and community progression may have previously struggled to translate from ideals into actions.

Our broader outcomes initiatives and activities are reviewed annually and are split into three core pillars: Our Community, Our Team, and Environmental Sustainability. We hold ourselves accountable for our commitments by publishing our Annual Corporate Social Responsibility Report.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND BELONGING

We consider cultural safety within the workplace to be of the highest priority. Creating an inclusive and respectful environment for people of all backgrounds, remains part of our core business principles.

We have cultivated an inclusive workplace that values and respects the rich diversity of our employees, clients, and partners, including our strong dedication to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

In all aspects of our operations, from policies to practices, we prioritise the wellbeing and cultural sensitivity of our stakeholders. Through these efforts, we are dedicated to creating a space where everyone feels acknowledged, valued, and safe to express their identity.

WT's health and wellbeing initiative, WT Thrive, includes a Balanced Way of Working Policy, leadership support, mental health support, emergency and crisis management support, and more. All team members have access to Medical Insurance, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and a Health and Wellbeing Platform.

HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELLBEING

We are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, clients, contractors, and visitors, and as far as is reasonably practicable, provide a working environment that is without health and safety risks.

Our nationwide Health and Safety Committee continually identify, assess, and control possible risks to the health, safety and wellbeing of people that may arise in the workplace. WT also offers all our team members access to Southern Cross health, wellbeing and medical support.

ISO CERTIFICATIONS

Quality Assurance is embedded in every stage of our service delivery. We are proud to be globally recognised through ISO accreditation in Quality Management (ISO 9001), Environmental Management (ISO 14001), and Health and Safety (ISO 45001), affirming our dedication to delivering exceptional service whilst prioritising sustainability and safety.
