Public Realm Infrastructure
The Wakatipu Transport Alliance was formed in 2020 to undertake the Queenstown Town Centre Upgrade and Stage 1 of the Arterial Road (both funded by QLDC and Shovel Ready Fund) and the public transport focussed projects on SH6 and SH6A (funding through NZUP programme).
The town centre projects will transform Brecon Street, Rees Street, Beach Street, Park Street and Hotops Rise into slower speed, high quality environments. This will improve accessibility throughout the town. The Arterial Road project supports the removal of traffic from Stanley Street, unlocking other investments which will improve the town centre experience for all.
The SH6 and SH6A projects will provide bus lanes and bus priority on SH6A, a new bus hub on SH6, improvements of the SH6/SH6A intersections, a new roundabout and underpass as well as improved walking and cycling connections.
WT provided cost auditing and preparation of tender pricing schedules on this project.
"Undertaking major infrastructure upgrades, whilst keeping the line open for freight trains, Te Huia and the Northern Explorer, has taken complex planning and hard work and we’re proud of the work our team has accomplished."
